Physician Specialist – Clinical Support Branch

The Physician Specialist will serve as a vital member of the Clinical Support Branch within the Division of Medical and Dental Affairs, reporting directly to the Branch Director. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the electronic health record (EHR) system. As a key leader of the Branch’s Clinical Quality and Risk Management Unit, the position will assist with policy development, quality improvement reviews, and health center audits, and support efforts to respond to new regulatory requirements. The position will also deliver direct patient care services in DPH clinics or mobile health services, provide on-call Duty Officer coverage, and as needed, act as a secondary provider for Employee Health Services.
This is a full-time position located in downtown Los Angeles. A hybrid telework schedule is available, requiring a minimum of three days a week in the office or providing direct patient care.
Key Responsibilities
• Review and direct modifications and upgrades to the Online Real-Time Computerized Health
Information Database (ORCHID) EHR and serve as a DPH subject matter expert for the ORCHID
working committees.
• Work collaboratively with PH Quality and Risk Management, Nursing, and the Public Health
Laboratory to develop and review standards of practice to ensure that DPH provides high-quality
clinical care.
• Conduct health center audits, respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, and address patient
and visitor complaints regarding staff and facilities.
• Work with DPH Clinic Services on service expansion and quality improvement initiatives directed
toward overall health equity and disease prevention.
• Provide direct patient care services in DPH Sexual Health Clinics, Tuberculosis Clinics, Refugee
Health Assessment Program, and/or mobile health services for a minimum of two sessions a week.
• Serve as a backup Employee Health Services physician.
• Assist physician providers in communicable disease outbreaks, including ordering diagnostic tests
and taking overnight on-call duty, for at least five one-week sessions per year, as needed.
• Provide consultations to hospitals and other medical providers during public health disasters and
emergencies, and complete mandated duties as a Disaster Service Worker in emergencies.
• Oversee credentialing and privileging.
